- 9:00am: Collect your equipment and data collection sheets. Meet at Sierra Nevada College, Patterson Hall, Lake Campus (Incline Village) or Chemistry Lab, Lake Tahoe Community College (South Lake Tahoe)
- 9:00- 9:15 am: Leave to collect your samples.
- 11:30 - 12:00am: Return with your samples.
- After 12:00: Thank you party at Patterson Hall, Sierra Nevada College,
Incline Village and/or Lake Tahoe Community College.
WHAT IS A TEAM LEADER?
If you have volunteered to be a team leader, you will receive some extra training on collecting the samples. You will guide your small team of people in collecting the samples.
WHAT WILL MY TEAM BE TESTING AT MY SITE(S)?
Every team will do a visual assessment, take photos and collect a water sample. Some teams will do more testing, such as fecal-coliform and
dissolved oxygen tests. The water sample will be tested in the following
days for its nutrient and chemicals content. Some of the testing will be
done at the Thank-You Party at Sierra Nevada College and Lake Tahoe Community College - you can watch it
taking place.
HOW DO I GET TO MY SITE?
You will need to get yourself to the meeting point at Sierra Nevada College or Lake Tahoe Community College and then get yourself to your site(s). Most people drive, but
several will be riding bikes.
HOW DO I GET MY TESTING GEAR AND DATA SHEETS AND ALL THAT STUFF?
Your equipment and data sheets will be ready to be picked Saturday morning
at 9:00am at Sierra Nevada College or Lake Tahoe Community College.
WHAT IS PROVIDED FOR US ON SNAP SHOT DAY?
All the necessary equipment is provided. There is some optional equipment listed below you can bring, if you have it. As a thank-you gift, volunteers will receive a Clean Water Team water bottle.
And there is a thank-you party at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village where drinks and lunch will be served. You will also be able to learn more about water quality and watch some of the testing being done.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME ON SNAP SHOT DAY?
Dress for variable weather! As usual in the Lake Tahoe Area:
- Carry a backpack
- wear layers
- wear a hat
- wear and bring sunblock
- bring drinking water
- bring a pen to record your observations
- Be ready to get your feet wet!
If you have the following gear, you can bring it and use to collect data and store the sample:
- GPS unit
- Digital camera
- Small cooler to hold your water sample
- Cooler packs (like dry ice packs) - but NO ICE
- Cell phone (so you can call with any questions you might have)
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR SNOWS?
The plan is to do Snap Shot Day rain or shine or snow or hail or
anything else the unpredictable Sierra Nevada weather will send us.
CAN I BRING FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS On May 4th, Snapshot
Day?
Yes! Kids under 12 need to be with an adult.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
No! Sorry! Dogs are likely to contaminate the water sample as they play in and around the streams.
