California
Conservation Corps - The California Conservation Corps
(CCC) engages young men and women in meaningful work, public
service and educational activities that assist them in becoming
more responsible citizens, while protecting and enhancing
California’s environment, human resources and communities.
California
State Water Resources Control Board - The State Water
Resources Control Board (SWRCB) was created by the Legislature
in 1967. The mission of the SWRCB is to ensure the highest
reasonable quality of waters of the state, while allocating
those waters to achieve the optimum balance of beneficial
uses. The joint authority of water allocation and water
quality protection enables the SWRCB to provide comprehensive
protection for California's waters.
California
Tahoe Conservancy - The Conservancy is an independent
State agency within the Resources Agency of the State of
California. It was established in its present form by State
law in 1984 (Chapter 1239, Statutes of 1984). Its jurisdiction
extends only to the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Conservancy is not a regulatory agency. It was established
to develop and implement programs through acquisitions and
site improvements to improve water quality in Lake Tahoe,
preserve the scenic beauty and recreational opportunities
of the region, provide public access, preserve wildlife
habitat areas, and manage and restore lands to protect the
natural environment.
Desert
Research Institute - Water resources, air quality, global
climate change and the physics of the earth's turbulent
atmosphere, humanity's historic struggle to adapt to harsh
environments, and its urgent search today for the technology
of the next century...these are the fundamental issues underlying
the research programs of Nevada's Desert Research Institute
(DRI). DRI pursues a full-time program of basic and applied
environmental research on a local, national, and international
scale. DRI's nearly 400 full- and part-time scientists,
technicians, and support personnel conduct some 140-research
projects annually. Created in 1959 by an act of the Nevada
Legislature, the Desert Research Institute was initially
established as part of the University of Nevada. When the
University of Nevada System was formed in 1968, the Desert
Research Institute became an autonomous, nonprofit division
of the University and Community College System. Over its
40-year history, DRI has grown to be one of the world's
largest multidisciplinary environmental research organizations.
Lahontan
Regional Water Quality Control Board - The mission of
the RWQCBs is to develop and enforce water quality objectives
and implementation plans which will best protect the beneficial
uses of the State's waters, recognizing local differences
in climate, topography, geology and hydrology. Lahontan
works to preserve and enhance the quality of California's
water resources and ensure their proper allocation and efficient
use for the benefit of present and future generations.
League
to Save Lake Tahoe - The League to Save Lake Tahoe was
formed in 1957 and is a privately funded, non-profit, public
benefit membership organization. The League is dedicated
to the restoration and preservation of the Tahoe Basin.
Nevada Conservation Corps - The Nevada Conservation Corps harnesses the energy and
idealism of its members to meet the needs of its communities
and public lands of Nevada. The NCC promotes an intergenerational
cascading mentorship model for environmental studies and
service throughout the K-16 educational system, while also
providing direct conservation initiatives for our park system.
The NCC programs engage young people, generally 17-24, in
productive services that benefit students, educators, park
personnel and the general public. The NCC transcends racial,
ethnic and economic barriers by creating a cadre of corps
members comprised of diverse backgrounds, drawing corps
members from secondary and higher education institutions.
By uniting environmental resources from federal, state and
county institutions, the NCC provides a comprehensive environmental
field studies and service program that advances ecological
literacy, conservation, and environmental research in the
Great Basin.
Nevada
Division of Environmental Protection - Our mission is
to protect and enhance the environment of the State of Nevada
consistent with the public health and enjoyment, the propagation
and protection of terrestrial and aquatic life, the operation
of existing industries, the pursuit of agriculture, and
economic development activities.
Nevada
State Parks - The Division of State Parks plans, develops
and maintains a system of parks and recreation areas for
the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors. The Division
also preserves areas of scenic, historic and scientific
significance in Nevada.
Nevada
Tahoe Conservation District - The mission of the Nevada
Tahoe Conservation District is to promote the conservation
and improvement of the Lake Tahoe Basin's natural resources
by providing leadership, education, and technical assistance
to all basin users.
Parasol
Foundation - The mission of The Parasol Foundation is
to serve as a catalyst for a new non-profit model that will
better serve the community.
Sierra
Watershed Education Partnerships - SWEP's goal is to facilitate the development and implementation
of hands-on learning applications which involve K-12 Tahoe-Truckee
Unified School District students in their local environment
and community.
SuperWater Solutions - Developed supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) technology for treating municipal wastewater sludge and organic waste, with an emphasis on recovering water and usable energy. Its focus on reducing waste and recovering resources complements LTEEC’s interest in water quality and environmental stewardship.
Tahoe
Area Sierra Club - The mission of the Sierra Club is:
Explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's
ecosystems and resources; Educate and enlist humanity to
protect and restore the quality of the natural and human
environment, and; Use all lawful means to carry out these
objectives.
Tahoe-Baikal
Institute - TBI is an international partnership for
environmental inquiry, research and action. The Tahoe-Baikal
Institute (TBI) was established to help preserve Lake Tahoe
in California and Lake Baikal in Siberia, as well as other
significant and threatened natural areas around the world.
This preservation is realized through environmental education
programs and international exchanges of students, scholars,
and practitioners in science, policy, and other fields.
Tahoe
Regional Planning Agency - The Tahoe Regional Planning
Agency (TRPA) leads the cooperative effort to preserve,
restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment
of the Lake Tahoe Region. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
is dedicated to preserving the beauty of the Tahoe Basin.
The Regional Plan adopted in 1987 continues to mature as
we learn more about the impacts man has on the environment.
The Code of Ordinances regulates, among other things, land
use, density, rate of growth, land coverage, excavation,
and scenic impacts. These regulations are designed to bring
the Region into conformance with the threshold standards
established for water quality, air quality, soil conservation,
wildlife habitat, vegetation, noise, recreation, and scenic
resources.
Tahoe
Resource Conservation District - The mission of the
Tahoe Resource Conservation District is to promote the conservation
