February 4 2006
9:00 AM - 12:00 AM
Tahoe Rim Trail Association's Winter Trails Day
Location: Tahoe Meadows Trail Head near Hwy 431
TRTA Winter Trails day will kickoff at 9 am. We will meet on the west end of Tahoe Meadows, on the right hand side. There will be a TRTA sign, so look for us! We will then go over the events of the day, have introductions and help people put on their snowshoes. From 9:15 to 10:00 the Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol will be hosting a winter backcountry session. Afterwards the snowshoe hikes will head out. There will be a brief introduction to the sport, which being so similar to walking it is not hard to pick up. There will be two different hikes being lead: a kids & adult hike. The children’s snowshoe hike, which will only be around an hour, will be followed by Winter Games, activities, and races! The adult snowshoe hike will also head out at the same time, this hike will be longer and last about 2 or so hours heading out to the vista. Both snowshoe hikes will have an interpretive & educational program provided by the U.S. Forest Service. We are anticipating the hikes and activities to around 1pm. There will be breakfast foods provided, as well as warm coffee & cocoa. This is going to be a fun, exciting, educational, and active day for all ages! I look forward to seeing you all out on the Trail!

Parking: Tahoe Meadows is a heavily used winter sports area, and parking can be limited especially on the weekends. Plan to arrive a little early, if you don’t want a headache from parking! We will be parking and meeting on the most Western end of Tahoe Meadows. So when coming up hwy 431 from the lake, at the very beginning of Tahoe Meadows, park on the right side (the western end). There will be a TRTA sign to signal were we will meet, and get acquainted! The Tahoe Rim Trail Staff Marlowe Brennan & Alexis Ollar will be there to greet you for this fun snowshoeing event!

* * * There has been lots of confusion at Tahoe Meadows for meeting purposes. We will not be meeting at the Shack that is seen off the hwy, we will be at the West end of the Meadows. Please look for a TRTA sign, that is where the activities will be, and where the hikes will be lead from! It is on the right hand side when coming from Lake Tahoe, if coming from the other side of Mt. Rose (or Reno) we will be on the Left hand side, at the end of the meadow!*****
