South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival
Location: Heavenly Village, South Lake Tahoe
The goals of this all-volunteer, non-profit, community event are to recognize, celebrate and promote the region’s unique beauty and to educate the public regarding how to preserve and protect it.
This year’s South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the Heavenly Village. Last year’s event brought between three and four thousand people out to listen to live music, join the Community Drumming Circle and most importantly, learn about ways they can help protect our Lake Tahoe Basin. In addition, there were lots of fun activities for kids including the watershed model and creating pinecone bird feeders. Face painting and the bouncy castle were also very popular.
We hope to replicate the success of last year’s South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival and increase its outreach potential. In addition to the educational booths and activities, we will be working to make this year’s event a Zero Waste Event. With the help of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, we will be working with vendors and participants to reduce the amount of waste generated at this event, which will include the replacement of disposable plastic cups, plates and utensils with compostable alternatives.
