National Service-Learning Conference
Location: Long Beach, California
The National Youth Leadership Council, Youth Service California, and Youth Service America invite you to the National Service-Learning Conference, the largest gathering of youths and service-learning coordinators from the field, drawing over 2,500 attendees from across the United States and nearly 20 other countries. The conference connects participants with service-learning leaders through three days of plenary sessions, featured forums, and service projects. It also provides access to new ideas and networking opportunities, with more than 200 workshops and countless opportunities for informal meetings. The 2005 conference, Educating for Change, looks at the opportunities presented and the challenges faced by service-learning in a time of change. Keynote speeches from Dr. Howard Gardner, best known in education circles for his theory of “multiple intelligences”; local teacher, Erin Gruwell, founder of the Freedom Writers; and Mawi Asgedom, an inspirational youth leader, will focus on service-learning as a key component of educating for change. This year’s conference will focus a bright light on service-learning efforts, challenges, and successes.
