Community Leaders in the Classroom
Location: Donald W. Reynolds Community Nonprofit Center, Incline Village, NV
Would you like to work with schools, offering presentations, schoolyard activities, field trips, lesson plans, or expertise? Community Leaders in the Classroom is designed for you! Community Leaders are individuals who work for agencies, organizations, businesses, and as individuals, offering educational opportunities to schools. This workshop will increase your skills in working with students, and enable you to enhance the quality of your programs. The five-hour workshop includes:
* Meeting your organization or business goals through educating students; educational
programs can increase public support for and understanding of the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) and the missions of all the partners in meeting EIP goals
* Place-based learning and service-learning concepts, and research which supports these approaches
* Group management techniques for the classroom, schoolyard and field
* Child development stages and ways of effectively working with each stage
* Understanding and meeting educational standards
* Using inquiry for science and other subjects, and the value of multiple intelligences for reaching all students
* Identifying grade levels and subjects which your program best matches, and targeting your
programs at grades or schools which are underserved with quality programs
* Providing motivational and academically valuable experiences for students that are marketable given the No Child Left Behind Act requirements
* Working effectively with teachers and other school staff, including interpreting educational jargon and scheduling yourself into school programs
* Using the CLC database and updating your entry

The workshop will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Nonprofit Center in Incline
Village. For more information, contact Heather Segale of LTEEC at 775-832-4138, segaleh@unce.unr.edu. There will be a small registration fee, and lunch or snack will be included. The workshop is sponsored by
