Nevada Service-Learning Partnership Summer Dialogue
Location: Airport Plaza Hotel, 1981 Terminal Way, Reno
This first statewide event for practitioners and others interested in service-learning is designed as a learning conversation. During the past few years, hundreds of teachers, faculty, and community organization staff and volunteers have been engaged in service-learning throughout Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin. We have created experiences for young people that have empowered them to see the impact they can make in their world, whether it is a local school community or health issues in foreign countries. Please join us for this engaging, challenging, and fun time with others where we share our learning and challenge ourselves to be thoughtful about moving service-learning forward in Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
You may register for parts or all of the following components of the Summer Dialogue:
- Service-Learning Basics — What, Why, How?
- Celebration Lunch and Affinity Group Dialogs, Keynote Speaker: Jim Toole, National Service-Learning Consultant
- The Link between Civic Engagement and Service-Learning. Why is a lack of civic engagement a problem for America and for our young people? What role can service-learning play in expanding the views of our youth about their participation in our communities and government?
- John Minkler of the Civic and Character Institute of Fresno and Constitutional Rights Foundation of Los Angeles will offer concurrent workshops for educationally-based service-learning and community-based service-learning.
