Tahoe Rim Trail Outing: Armstrong Pass to Star Lake

Armstrong Pass to Star Lake. Strenuous. 11 miles round trip. Four wheel drive necessary to drive from Highway 89 on Forest Service Route 051 for 5 miles to Armstrong Pass Trailhead at 8130 feet. We will hike past several wildflower lined creeks on our way to Freel Saddle, at 9730 feet. We will then proceed to Star Lake, the highest lake within the Tahoe basin. This cold lake is a great spot to filter water before trekking back to Armstrong Pass. Dogs on leash permitted.
